From 27.5 millions of Peruvians nearly half of them (11.7 millions) do not access basic sanitation services.
7 of each ten Peruvians, who do not have sanitation services, live in rural areas. The others 3 live in cities.
And from people who have them are often low-quality services.

  • Nearly 3 of each 4 latrines do not
    have slab with cap and toilet bowl.
  • Nearly 1 of each 2 latrines does not
    have slabs or doors with lock.
  • 1 of each 3 latrines does not have
    doors.
  • 1 of each 4 latrines does not
    have roof.

    Peruvian children, under 5 years old, have between 5 and 10 episodes of diarrhea a year. Between 9 and 13 per cent of infant mortality is about it.

    Children affected by episodes of diarrhea have a high risk of suffering chronic malnutrition. In Peru, one of each four children under five years old suffers it.

    The chronic malnutrition is associated in minor learning capacity, under academic performance, reduction of adult productive capacities and increase of the possibility of suffering chronic illness (diabetes, cardiovascular accidents, obesity etc.)

    sistemas inadecuados

    Illnesses passed on by inappropriate water supply systems, sanitation and hygiene, represent to Peru a loss 2.3 millions of nuevos soles a year.

    mayor costo

    The lack of appropriate sanitation systems is more expensive to Peru than the cost caused by air pollution, lead exposure and indoor air pollution.
